Walgreen withdraws $2.8B offer to buy Longs Drug

Drugstore chain Walgreen Co. has withdrawn its $2.8 billion bid to acquire Longs Drug Stores, apparently helping to ease the path for Longs' $2.7 billion acquisition by CVS Caremark Corp.

Biogen Idec, Elan report 2 cases of brain disease

Shares of Biogen Idec Inc. and Elan Corp. PLC plunged after-hours Thursday after the companies reported two new cases of a brain disease in patients treated with their multiple sclerosis drug Tysabri.
